This week is National Heritage Week across this beautiful country of ours. There is a huge array of events taking place nationwide from the 18th to 26th August. Ireland’s oldest agricultural show takes place this weekend on Saturday 25th August in Piltown, Co Kilkenny. The Iverk Show has a longstanding and proud tradition of classes for horses, sheep, crafts, cattle, flowers, poultry, dogs, fruit, cakes, vegetables, farm produce, arts, jams and honey. As well as all that, there are over 100 trade stands, artisan foods and gardening and children’s entertainment sections! Also in Tipperary, on the beautiful shores of Lough Derg, Brookfield Farm is hosting a Biodiversity Walk & Honey Tasting this Saturday 25th Aug – a truly fascinating walk through forestry, tillage crops and acres of wildflowers stretching down to the shores of the stunning Lough Derg, topped off with a local honey tasting. With a score of awards tucked firmly under her belt, Ailbhe Gerrard farms and produces delicious and sustainable farm foods, and wants to share her story with you! Cork Craft & Design is celebrating the diversity of craft available in Cork City and County this month, from the 1st August to 1st September. With exhibitions in textiles, wood turning and mixed crafts, open studios, demonstrations, workshops and trails, Cork Craft Month offers a jam-packed programme of events for you to enjoy. So get yourselves down to Cork and soak up some creativity this August!
Make your way down to the lovely town of Dalkey this weekend for the Dalkey Lobster Festival, from 24th to 26th August. Dalkey Lobster Festival is a fusion of local seafood and the best of current, global jazz musicians. And with lots of fun and free events for all the family to enjoy, this is a veritable feast for the senses – lobster, crab and all that jazz!
